students cleaning trail

Sixth grade students, led by their teachers, Patrick Burke, Misha Duvernoy, Amie English, Tyler Herrington and Katrina Williams, along with parent volunteers, set out for Whipple City Woods on Thursday, May 25, for a day of service.  Students were broken into small groups and worked hard trimming brush, clipping trees, mulching, weeding, and clearing the paths along the trails behind the high school.

The day was a culmination of a yearlong, “trails project,” initiated by Technology teacher, Amie English and Librarian, Katrina Williams.  Students spent the year learning about the forest ecosystem with the goal of preserving and protecting the landscape, while creating a space for school children and community members to share and enjoy nature.

Much was accomplished and all involved agreed that this should become an annual event.
