sad news cloud image

Dear Greenwich Families,

Unfortunately I have very sad news to share. We learned over the weekend that Ian
Merrill, Greenwich Class of 2019, was killed in a car accident last Friday night. Ian and
his family are a large part of the Greenwich Central School District Family, and we join
his family and friends in grieving this tragic loss.

Ian will be remembered as a bright and athletic young man who graduated with a world
of opportunity before him. His quick wit and wry sense of humor is something that his
teachers and fellow students appreciated about Ian and will undoubtedly be missed.

Coping with the sudden loss of a young person may be one of the hardest challenges
many of us will face. As our school community copes with feelings of shock and grief,
the school district counseling team is available to all of our students and staff.

If you or your children would like support from one of our school counselors, please call
your school building directly. Talking and grieving with others is one way to express
feelings of confusion, loss, and sadness. Here are some additional resources from the
American Psychological Association: http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/grief.aspx.

The services are described in this link. https://flynnbrosinc.com/tribute/details/3932/Ian-Merrill/obituary.html#content-start

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Merrill family and everyone who knows Ian.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jennifer Steimle
Superintendent of Schools
