From Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner:

Every March, during Women’s History Month, we carry on the tradition of honoring women who dedicate themselves to making the world a better place. For many years, women have been at the forefront of fighting for social, environmental and cultural change. These women broke down generational barriers and deserve recognition for their work. As your Assemblywoman, I’ve secured measures that move New York forward in the fight for women’s equality, but our fight continues. I’ll never stop working for a better and more equitable future for our children and women throughout the state.

In addition, it’s vital that our youth learn more about these trailblazers of history. By understanding our past, we can build a brighter future. I encourage students in grades 6-12 to submit 500-word essays for my Women of Distinction Essay Contest, which provides an opportunity to learn about the bold women who’ve shaped New York’s history.

The Women of Distinction 2023 Essay Contest winner was Reese Autiello . Students may write on any woman in New York history who has been an inspiration or who has made a positive impact on society.  Reese  wrote on Susan B Anthony.

Nicole Fortier was selected as a recipient of the 2023 Women of Distinction Award.

Both  were honored and celebrated Sunday at the Inn in Saratoga.
