Shenendehowa HS- Three Greenwich track and field athletes have met standards at theState Qualifier meet to compete in the New York State Track and Field Championships.Each section in New York State is broken into Division 1 (large schools) and Division 2(small schools). Depending upon place and performance, each section is assured of at least one State Meet participant per Division and as many as three. Greenwich Central HS is in Division 2.

Sophomore Jayden White qualified for the 100M Dash in an outstanding personal
record (PR) time of 11.24.


For the girls' team, Section 2's best throwers, seniors Keegan Collins and Kiersten
Alling, qualified for the State Meet. Collins won the discus with a distance of 119' 6”,
was second in the shot put (34' 7”) and made made the standard in the discus. Alling
won the shot put (35' 5”), was third in the discus (110' 9”) and will compete in both
events at States.


There were other very notable GCS performances that fell just short of State Meet
standards. Senior Christian Vandoren cleared 11' in the pole vault, which was only 6” off
his PR. Sophomore Joe Radovich ran a blazing 51.23 PR in the 400M. Sectional shot put
and discus champion Ryan Alling fell just inches short of qualifying in both events with
a PR shot put performance of 47' 6” and a discus throw of 143' 2”. This was only the
senior's second season in track and field.


Freshman speedster Sarah Radovich ran a season best 13.11 in the 100M dash and junior
Dorothy Van Pelt capped off a an outstanding season in the 100M hurdles. In the finals,
she appeared to be ahead of her PR pace of 17.28 when she was slowed by hitting a
hurdle.


The NY State Track and Field Championships will be held at Middletown HS on Friday,
June 9 th and Saturday, June 19 th .
