Character award

This prestigious annual award has been offered to Greenwich upperclassmen for the past five years. It is generously provided by Reid and Breanna Lundy.

A student's character can shine through in the classroom, courts, stage, hallways, and fields. Character can be embodied by trustworthiness, honesty, respect, sense of responsibility, ambition, open-mindedness, compassion, and commitment to making a positive difference in their school, community and world.

"While academics are extremely important and athletic prowess is impressive, a student's character could be the most important of all for success in life," says Ms. Lundy. "I believe young people must be rewarded, not only for their unique talents, but also for attributes of great character. In order to help encourage these qualities, the selected winner will earn appropriate recognition and a $1,000 award --- with the stipulation that half of the monies be used to fund the unique project which they have developed ."

The winner of the 2023 Character Award is junior Molly Abate. She is involved in a bevy of worthwhile endeavors including soccer, lacrosse, track, National Honor Society, Art Club, and peer tutoring. Her proposed project entails initiating a "GCS Welcome Package" to be given to new students at Greenwich Central School, so that when they enter the school for the first time, they may already feel connected and cared about. This idea displays the thoughtfulness and kindness that Molly's character clearly represents.
